I have been researching the possibility of increasing the output of the generator to add more accessories to the Savage. I have been in touch with Ricks Motorsports who sell rebuilt Stators, starters and rectifiers for various bikes.
I told Rick want I wanted and he said there is a Yamaha stator that is the same diameter but an 1/8" thicker. He told me to take the stator off and put some silly puddy on one of the stator coils and put the stator back on the bike and tighten it. Then remove the stator once more and measure the thickness of the puddy (it should have compressed when you tighten it). If there is at least a 1/4" thickness, the Yamaha stator will fit. If there is only about an 1/8" thickness, forget it, there's nothing he can think of doing. It would be nice if someone on this forum has their bike torn apart, this would make the above procedure easy. I'll be coming up to an oil change pretty soon and if noone has done it yet I'll do it when I change my oil.
